New Apostle Gallery is currently looking for Interns to assist both gallery operations and studio practice. Part time internships available are split into two distinct fields of interest.
Firstly, assisting the gallery in all aspects of exhibiting artwork including preparing and advertising before shows, curating and hanging artwork, hosting events and engaging clients, and packing and shipping artwork after shows. Other ongoing duties include art handling - collecting and preparing artwork from and for existing and forthcoming events, cataloguing and documenting, as well as other day-to-day administrative duties.
The other part of the internship concentrates on contemporary art practice. Interns work directly with practicing artists represented by the gallery. Skills learnt include making stretchers, boards and frames, stretching and preparing canvases, assisting artists with mural and/or street art commissions, and general ongoing studio maintenance.
Internships are offered at a one to three month placement with 8 to 16 hours expectation per week. The gallery/studio is based in Mount Vernon in Westchester, New York but interns will be expected to travel to ongoing projects in New York City along with occasional trips in the Tri-State area. Travel within NYC will generally be at the interns own expense, but allowances will be available on a case by case basis.
Applicants can come from any field of study and no specific experience or qualifications are necessary, but an interest in Fine Art and the contemporary art scene is expected. This is a professional placement - successful candidates will be highly organized, committed and responsible.
